Made Of Fail

Episode 44 is live!

Potterpuffs™ by Naomi

SPOILER WARNING AHOY for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Thanks to Cleolinda, Mark from Mark Reads, and Rinna from Potter Fic Weekly for joining us once again!

It's the last Harry Potter movie review episode! Cleo had a marvelous post about it, and keep an eye on Movies In Fifteen Minutes for That Of Which We Shall Not Speak.

Holy crap this movie made $168.5 million its opening weekend.

Want more? J.K. Rowling has created Pottermore, which is "a free website that builds an exciting online experience around the reading of the Harry Potter books." Way to be all coy or whatever. :) They're also on Twitter @Pottermore.

Here's the burnt Hogwarts cake Cleo mentioned.

Emily has graciously shared photos of her Made Of Fail tour 2011 on Flickr. Oh, and there's some stuff from something called the North American Discworld Con in there too.

Kevin has a few photos from NADWCon on his Twitpic. WARNING: contains Kevin.

Rob Granito is a dick.

Yup, Made Of Fail has a World Of Warcraft guild. Look for the Failcraft Heroes Society on the Thunderhorn server, Alliance-side! (Probably best to note: people on trial accounts cannot join guilds. Soz.)

Mark liked my Ravenclaw Rumpus idea. Yeah!

When Kevin read Danielle's letter, I rememberd a nitpick that no one covered. Now, in Part 1 - they kept the plot point Harry's original, Fawke-feather wand breaking, right? But in Part 2, he breaks the Elder Wand before using it to repair his original one. As Cleolinda said, "It's your own continuity!"

You guys need to do a webcast (how awesome would it have been to have one that one time Cleo horrified KC), just for fun.

Wild Mass Guessing here: Perhaps Movie!Harry wanted to get rid of everything linking him to/reminding him of the Dark Tosser, and decided to get a whole new wand?

Possibly justified in that the Holly wand reacted to him as a Harry/Voldemort mix of magic, and the Voldemort magic in him is completely gone, evidenced by the fact that A: Harry can no longer feel the Horcrux deaths, and B: Harry can no longer speak/understand Parseltongue. Would be fixed by one line of dialogue, but whatevs.

It's not a bad fanwank, but I do have one point against it. I think the wand's connection to Fawke's - and through him to Dumbledore - would outweigh its connection to Voldemort. I think the fact that he used the name Severus on one of his sons indicates that he's learned to accept the bad with the good.

The one reason it's not as egregiously bad in the film as it would have been in the book is that the film didn't do as much to establish just how much the right wand means to a wizard - remember all those chapters of Harry missing his wand like it was a phantom limb.

...I'd never heard of this Rob Granito guy before. Wow, what an ass. Congrats on the TVTrope entry! Needs more WMG.

Great review on Harry Potter, I love it when people get emotional over their fandom.
