Hello everyone!

Due to LiveJournal being DDOSed all the time and, let's face it, a bit outdated, as of Episode 62 we will be posting new episodes directly to our main website at MadeOfFail.net.

We will not be deleting this community, so you'll still be able to get all the old episodes here. Thanks for sticking around!

Episode Sixty: That's What We're Tolkien About [Dec. 23rd, 2012|05:10 pm]

Episode 60 is live!

SHOW NOTES

SPOILER WARNING: We spoil The Hobbit out to there and back again.

Thanks to Cleolinda Jones (@cleolinda), our Senior Elvish Correspondent, for coming on to replace Dayna. And welcome Danielle (@eruvadhril), Tolkien fangirl extraordinaire and venomous Australian. :P Oh, and some guy named Kevin was here.

The Hobbit is still in theaters. Go see it! Buy the book while you're at it!

Editor Devin has requested we link to The Literal Hobbit Trailer, and who are we not to share?

OTHER THINGS OF NOTE: Kevin is now a part of the MorBacon Theater Company, and has a few projects up his sleeve for 2013, so cross your fingers that all goes well! With any luck, they will be doing a production of Carnacki the Ghost Finder, which you can download for free to the Kindle here.

Danielle would like to draw your attention to Mitch Benn's audio performance of A Christmas Carol here, as well as Martin Pearson's website for a Lord Of the Rings musical.

Also, there is a Klingon Christmas Carol going on in Chicago. No, really. Try to catch it before the end of December.

Finally, keep a close eye on Cleolinda's Movies In Fifteen Minutes for Breaking Dawn Part 2 In Fifteen Minutes!

Happy Holidays to all our listeners!

Episode 59 is live!

SHOW NOTES

SPOILER WARNING: At this point, do we even need to say we spoil pretty much the entirety of Breaking Dawn Part 2?

Thank you to our Senior Sparkle Correspondent Cleolinda Jones (@cleolinda) for joining us (and finally shedding that title!), along with Jo (@mstorijo) and K.C. (@evil_kinegro) YOU'RE FREE, LITTLE ONES, GO FROLIC IN THE GREAT WIDE OPEN!

Although we played a good game, nobody hates Twilight as much as Robert Pattinson. Nobody.

That said, this was actually surprisingly watchable, and even ComicsAlliance agrees with us.

The interview with director Bill Condon we mentioned is magical and absolutely worth reading. Deleted scenes, we needs them, precious.

Episode Fifty-Eight: Pandaring To the Audience [Oct. 9th, 2012|10:31 am]

[Tags|]

Episode 58 is live!

SHOW NOTES

It's a Reliquary reunion! Thanks to Tessa and Weston for stepping in for George WHO WOULD HAVE NONE OF THIS NONSENSE CAN HE GET BACK TO HIS WRESTLING SHOW NOW PLEASE KTHX and geeking out over WoW with me for a few hours on end.

SPOILER WARNING: We spoil pretty major plot details for the latest World Of Warcraft expansion, Mists Of Pandaria. You have so been warned.

NERD WARNING: This is pretty close to a WoW-only episode. If you have zero interest in the game, best step right along, nothing to see here, here be dragonflights, etc.

Editor Devin has noted that we may want to define the following for newbies:
-DPS: Damage Per Second; the role in the party that kills things to death.
-AOE: Area Of Effect; a spell or ability that damages more than one target at a time
-PVE: Player Vs. Environment; the "normal" game, where you cannot arbitrarily be picked off by a player of the opposing faction unless you designate yourself for PvP (Player Vs. Player) or are in a PvP-specific zone.
-spec: Specialty; designating if your gear and abilities are for tanking (taking damage for the group); healing (what it says on the tin) or DPS (see above).

In our excitement we were also remiss in not actually naming "the book" we so very highly recommended. This is Jaina Proudmoore: Tides Of War by Christie Golden. It is absolutely fantastic, highly recommended, and kind of mandatory reading if you wanted to know exactly WTF was going on in the Theramore's Fall scenario.

STUFF WHAT WAS NOT WARCRAFT-RELATED: Tessa was at Canterlot Gardens last month and had the best time ever. She met Tara Strong (Twilight Sparkle) and Andrea Libman (Pinkie Pie) and then died of squee. She got better.

Tessa has also been doing a Let's Play of Pony Fantasy 6, a Final Fantasy VI mod, here at 1P Start! Also other games! Watch those too!

My Little Pony: Fighting Is Magic is a fan-made, non-profit 2D fighter being developed by Mane 6 and it looks frickin' sweet.

Regarding server status and the future of Made of Fail [Sep. 10th, 2012|08:43 pm]

alliancesjr
[Tags|]

Earlier today, our hosting service was having difficulties with its DNS. As a result, most if not all websites went down for the duration, including Made of Fail Productions and its associated hosted sites. While an official statement has yet to be made regarding the nature of this outage, related news reports - coupled with a difference of opinion of business practices - have left us in the position of transferring our sites and content elsewhere.

I am currently in the process of backing up episodes, photos, and artwork that have been posted to the various Made of Fail projects, barring I Hate/Love Remakes, as that is self-hosted elsewhere by Noel. I have also backed up the posts to all the Wordpress sites, which will hopefully reduce transfer times.

In any case, it will cost us about $250 to reserve and transfer to our new chosen hosting service. This will include two full years of service - our normal renewal period, which would have come up in June of next year.

At the moment, we only need about $160 left to reach that amount. If you would like to assist us in transferring servers, our donation button is at the end of this post.

We are currently working on some special content for all of you. Thank you for your continued support. We would not be anything without all of you, now even more than ever.

Episode Fifty-Seven: George Wants Liefeld Tentacle Pr0n [Aug. 31st, 2012|04:21 pm]

Episode 57 is live!

SHOW NOTES

Hey, folks! Devin (the editor) here. Dayna and George are currently without power thanks to Hurricane Issac. Everyone is okay—as okay as you can be after 3 days in the South in August without air conditioning. Please take a moment to send good vibes down to the Gulf Coast, everyone in the storm's path, and towards all our friends who could use them. Here's a good start if you are looking to give to charities. Please share your recommendations in the comments.

Pivoting towards the funny (or at least funny-looking), thanks to random listener Fail-family member Noel for joining the conversation. Catch him on Twitter (@NoelCT), LJ (noelct.livejournal.com), and all over madeoffail.net.

Bell-bottom jeans enthusiast Rob Liefeld has left DC Comics in a huff. He has a point, but he's lashing out at Scott Synder of all people. Class it up, buddy.

Speaking of bizarre anatomy and costumes, check out Made of Fail's venture into pro wrestling: Signature Move. You know you want more George in your earholes.

Geoff Johns is just dumping all his bad ideas into Justice League so he has nothing but good left for Green Lantern, right? Right? Or maybe this is a good change? Thoughts? We won't yell at you. Too much.

Apologies for that odd echo that pops up here and there. Something funky happened with the recording and, trust me, it was a lot worse before.

With regards to Galilea, we are re-casting the role of Variel Wallace. Try out, won't you? ETA: SOMEBODY can't read dates, DAYNA, and we have been informed that the auditions are closed and the role is currently in deliberation.

Yeah, so, they banned Buckyballs. It's pretty stupid.

Christian Bale is a frickin' superhero in and out of costume, that is all.

While hospitals have wiped out much if not all of the shooting victims' medical bills, Caleb Medley and his family still need assistance. If you want to help, visit http://supportcaleb.com/.

Episode 54 is live!

SHOW NOTES

SPOILER WARNING: We discuss The Avengers in this episode and we are not shy about spoilers. Go see it before you listen to us.

Thank you to Lewis "Linkara" Lovhaug for joining us again! You can find his review of the movie here. Also, he's back to doing History Of Power Rangers so DEAR GOD LEAVE THE MAN ALONE. XD

Also thanks to Gavin Leaf for joining us for his first time on the flagship podcast! Gav plays Q on our Star Trek: Galilea audio drama (we're up to episode 5!) and regularly appears on the Bromance podcast with RolloT and ArcLight.

Everyone give a huge congratulations to our tireless editor Devin, who will be officially married on May 19th! (We asked him if he was prepared for the wedding and he replied thusly. It's possible we should be concerned.)

We also recommend you watch Doug Walker's reviews of the Avengers, both as the Chester A. Bum character and himself. We hear it's the greatest movie he's ever seen in his LIFE!

[citation needed] of the episode: No solid confirmation for a Black Widow movie. While one article claims it's a done deal, it just reads as "they've been talking about it a lot."

Jim Hines writes an interesting piece about the Black Widow's role in The Avengers, which we more or less disagree with but it's still well-written.

Joss Whedon has Things To Say about the movie, and we're also happy to report that as of this posting, it's grossed $1 billion worldwide. NUMFAR! DO THE DANCE OF JOY!

Donations [Dec. 7th, 2011|05:51 pm]

Dear listeners:

It saddens us to inform you that one of us has recently experienced a terrible tragedy. Brandi, a.k.a. sirius20_81, recently gave birth to a baby girl named Leelu Shea. Tragically, Leelu died less than an hour after she was born due to complications in her heart.

We at Made Of Fail consider our listeners our extended family, and we try very hard to take care of our own. So we're doing a donation drive to help Brandi and her family. We can't turn back time and make everything better, but what we can do is try to make day-to-day things a little easier while she and her family take the time to grieve. We hope this will help take care of things like hospital and medical bills, funeral arrangements for Leelu, and any other care the family needs.

If you cannot donate money, please repost this wherever you can, and leave a comment expressing your sympathies and/or prayers. You are in our thoughts, Brandi, and we hope this helps even the tiniest bit.

SHOW NOTES

Thanks to our Senior Sparkle Correspondent Cleolinda Jones for joining us this month, as well as Noel from I Hate/Love Remakes and our glutton for punishment K.C.!

Cleo has Breaking Dawn In Fifteen Minutes up on her blog, and she just knocked it out of the park.

Doug Walker, a.k.a. That Guy With the Glasses has also done a really great video review of Breaking Dawn, with >9000% more rage! (Also a Bum Review, but we're pointing to his actual review.)

MarzGurl has been picking apart the first Twilight novel rather effectively, if you feel like going back to basics. A more innocent time, if you will.

This isn't mentioned in the episode, but Robert Pattinson is the greatest Twilight troll of all time and we just had to share it.

An Important Announcement [Nov. 24th, 2011|09:39 pm]

alliancesjr
[Tags|]

Kevin here.

This Thanksgiving, I realize I have a lot to be thankful for. Wonderful friends. A lovely fiancée. Mass Effect 2 (You are a horrible, meddlesome girl, Tessa, and I love you so). I could make a list, but the absolute top would be Made of Fail.

This show was a turning point in my life. It was the moment when two friends decided to have some fun, and it snowballed into all of this. Made of Fail Productions, now about to add two - maybe three or four - radio dramas to its already impressive lineup of three podcasts, a crapload of blogs, and more friendships than I can do service to.

It is because of all of this that I am where I am today, at the heart and soul of this crazy steamrolling ball of insanity that I love so much. I have been taking more and more charge of the Production company as a whole, which is what this is turning out to be, and as such, there needs to be a bit of a change.

I would like to take this moment to announce that, as of January, I am stepping aside as host of our flagship podcast, Made of Fail, and handing the reins over to Dayna. In my opinion, she has - more than me - helped shape this one little show into what it is today, and I have full faith in her ability to take the lead and run it in whatever direction she chooses. She may have some formatting changes, or she might keep things exactly as they are, but the decision is now hers and hers alone.

Does this mean I am leaving? No. I will remain the Owner and Lead Producer of Made of Fail Productions. I will still seek out and start up new projects, take submissions from outside sources, and figure out what the hell this is all shaping up to be. I'm also not leaving our flagship podcast completely, either; I will be coming on as a guest-host now, on whatever episodes Dayna wishes me to take part in, or whichever episodes have the topics I want to discuss. I'm still writing for Deconstructing Moya, and I'm never going away.

This is not a decision I make lightly - it has been in the works for a few months, and it has been on my mind for over half a year now. The whole thing has just gotten so big, and it warms my heart that we're so important to all of you. It is because of this that I wish to do you all the justice of continuing to have the shows, features, blogs, and other fun projects that you love so much. There will be more of the same, and more of the new, and much much more of Noel than we ever wanted to see in the first place.

Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Holidays, and Happy Failcraft Adventuring to all of you.

May we stay on the air forever.

AVON Walk for Breast Cancer [Oct. 18th, 2011|12:20 pm]

alliancesjr
[Tags|]

Followers, readers, listeners, and general friends, I owe a lot to my mother. I've mentioned multiple times that I am a second-generation geek; most of my sci-fi and fantasy fandoms were inherited from her. She was the one who took me to see Star Wars re-released in 1997, who introduced me to the wide variety of Star Trek on television, and who watched Farscape and Buffy with me first run. She attended my first ever stand-up comedy performance, helped me through some recent financial difficulties, and has been - for many years - my first advisor for anything that troubles me.

Five years ago, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. It had been caught early by her doctor, and through treatment and the support of her family and friends, she was able to force it very quickly into remission. Shortly afterwards, she registered for the AVON Walk for Breast Cancer, and walked in it with her friend and fellow cancer survivor Mandy. Every year since, they have registered for the crew, but next year they will be ready to walk again.

Five years, after all, is the mark that doctors pronounce you clean. While they do plan on making the walk every five years, this one is especially important to them. It's a "victory lap" of sorts.

Tessa and I will be taking their places on the crew next year while they walk, but first they need to raise the money. To participate in the AVON Walk for Breast Cancer, she must raise $1,800. (How this money is spent.)

My mother has done so much for me over the years. There are few things I can do for her in return, but this is one of them: I will be donating to her walk in 2012, and I would like to add the support of Made of Fail Productions behind her.

Please consider donating for this worthwhile cause. Any amount, no matter how small, goes towards her $1,800 goal. Even a single dollar helps.

Thank you for your consideration.

SHOW NOTES

Thanks to Angie and Evie for joining us this month! You can hear more of Angie on Strangers From the Internet, and Evie on I Hate/Love Remakes.

Our buddy Linkara has more reviews of the DCnU - every single new comic. Check out his That's All I'm Saying reviews.

Laura Hudson at ComicsAlliance wrote a great article on why the new interpretations of Starfire and Catwoman are...not the best. (Your mileage may vary.)

Former Marvel and Valiant editor-in-chief Jim Shooter wrote a very in-depth article about how the new 52 issues work as entry points, using RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS as his example.

And if you were curious about DEMON KNIGHTS, which we couldn't get to, our friend ChaoticRambler wrote about it.

If you can't get to a comic shop to check out any titles, you can go to Comixology and buy them there!

Listener Bipla wants you to check out a spooky webseries called Marble Hornets, so go for it!

We at Made Of Fail would like to pay our respects to Steve Jobs, who knew what was up.

Happy Halloween, everyone! Check out James Rolfe's Monster Madness all October long at Cinemassacre. Show us your costumes in the comments if you like!

[Tags|]

Hey, you!

Yes, you. You guys sitting out there, listening to AMAZING PODCASTS and wondering what else you could be doing. Made of Fail is looking for two guests for this month's episode, and one of them could be YOU!

We've talked a lot about online profiles, and being yourself and finding a girl or a guy who can accept you for you are. We've gone on and on about confidence. But it's time for us to put it to the test.

We are looking for two geek singles of different types, (i.e., one male and one female, transgendered or cisgendered, etc.)1 who would be interested in getting advice. If you're in the dating scene, or wish you were, and don't know what you're doing wrong (or how to go about even starting this process), we've got you covered. We've got a handpicked panel of Geek Dating Experts (incuding one Very Special Guest Professional) who will give you pointers, adjust your thought process, and get you on the way to finding your partner in awesomeness!

If this sounds like something for you, send us an e-mail at made_of_fail@yahoo.com and tell us why YOU deserve the chance to be on this episode for this amazing opportunity!

Due to the personal nature of this episode, please only consider applying if you're willing to be open and honest in front of our hosts and listeners. You will not be asked any deeply personal or embarrassing questions, but we're giving you the option.

  1. Sexuality is not restricted by labels, but can be difficult to accurately list. Everyone is included in this call!

Episode 45 is live!

SHOW NOTES

By the way, do you like our new site design? Isn't it pretty? It raises the dead!

It bears repeating that Made Of Fail's World Of Warcraft guild is really, really, REALLY openly recruiting. Because nobody wants to raid with That One Player. Failcraft Heroes Society on Thunderhorn-US, Alliance Side. Contact Anthai or Rosaleen for details.

YouTube user DayOldStubble did a great job of capturing the panels at Wizard World Chicago, so go take a look - especially the Bruce Campbell solo panel where something amazingly awesome happens. Yes, you'll know it when you see it.

Speaking of videos from Wizard World Chicago, did we mention that The Phantom Husband Karl met Noah Hathaway? Because Karl met Noah Hathaway. Also Bruce Campbell. Who will always be more awesome than you.

Do check out Bruised Orange Theater's Facebook page (it's more up-to-date than their official site), and go see them if you're in the Chicagoland area!

From the file marked THE INTERNET NEEDED THIS: Team Nostalgia Chick performs a fanfic about themselves. It's as wonderful as you would expect.

HEY YOU GUYS WE WROTE A BOOK. Deconstructing Moya Season One is available on Amazon as an e-book. Read all about it!

CONVENTIONS: Dayna will be at MAGFest in National Harbor, MD January 5-8, 2012. There will be nerds. It will be amazing. Go there.

Also at Wizard World New Orleans January 28th and 29th next year, so check that out too!

Potterpuffs™ by Naomi

SHOW NOTES

SPOILER WARNING AHOY for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Thanks to Cleolinda, Mark from Mark Reads, and Rinna from Potter Fic Weekly for joining us once again!

It's the last Harry Potter movie review episode! Cleo had a marvelous post about it, and keep an eye on Movies In Fifteen Minutes for That Of Which We Shall Not Speak.

Holy crap this movie made $168.5 million its opening weekend.

Want more? J.K. Rowling has created Pottermore, which is "a free website that builds an exciting online experience around the reading of the Harry Potter books." Way to be all coy or whatever. :) They're also on Twitter @Pottermore.

Here's the burnt Hogwarts cake Cleo mentioned.

Emily has graciously shared photos of her Made Of Fail tour 2011 on Flickr. Oh, and there's some stuff from something called the North American Discworld Con in there too.

Kevin has a few photos from NADWCon on his Twitpic. WARNING: contains Kevin.

Rob Granito is a dick.

Yup, Made Of Fail has a World Of Warcraft guild. Look for the Failcraft Heroes Society on the Thunderhorn server, Alliance-side! (Probably best to note: people on trial accounts cannot join guilds. Soz.)

Also YOU GUYS YOU GUYS WE ARE ON TVTROPES. WE HAVE ARRIVED ON THE INTERNETS.

Episode 43 is live!

SHOW NOTES

THIS EPISODE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR GREEN LANTERN, IN THEATERS NOW. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

It's the Made Of Fail Third Anniversary show! Thank you so much to our fans, friends and crew for making us what we are. :)

Thanks this episode are due to Sterling Gates and Lewis "Linkara" Lovhaug from DC Comics and Atop the Fourth Wall, respectively. You can find them on Twitter at @sterlinggates and @Linkara19.

Sterling's CREEPY AS FUCK "leave now" pic is here.

Be sure to watch the full trailer for Suburban Knights, coming June 27th to ThatGuyWiththeGlasses.com to celebrate their third anniversary! (Shut up, we have a smaller budget. :P)

Kevin's review of the epic Pregnesia can be found right here!

Kevin's recommended webfiction:

For a good laugh, read Topless Robot's Cleolinda-esque recap of the best scenes from Green Lantern!

If you're itching to learn the stories behind other members of the Green Lantern Corps, pick up Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, which features 100% more Nathan Fillion. And while you're at it, check out Ryan Reynolds as Monty in Waiting, which is the Office Space for the restaurant industry.

So, DC Comics is rebooting its universe again...sort of. Read the Bob Harras/Eddie Berganza interview at Newsarama here, MightyGodKing has thrown in his opinion (which brings up a lot of great points), and you can read Lewis' original blog post about the whole thing right here. Also, here's iFanboy's Definitive Guide To the DC Comics Reboot, which lists titles and creators.

Also, this article from GeekDad is a very thoughtful piece about DC's upcoming digital distribution.

Oh, and yeah, Rob Liefeld was totally in a Levi's ad. We weren't kidding.

There are lots of dissertations on Joss Whedon's take on feminism on the net, but a really good one is here.

The Wonder Woman TV show has been cancelled; few are mourning.

CHARITIES: The tornado in Joplin, MO had not happened at the time of recording, but you can donate to the Red Cross to help relief efforts there or in Alabama. Also, Japan still needs earthquake relief.

Donation Drive [Apr. 6th, 2011|04:47 pm]

As Dayna so eloquently pointed out, Made of Fail is currently having a Donation Drive Spectacular to keep ourselves going! With the costs of C2E2 planning, our funds are low, and producing Absolutely Free Content1 does in fact cost us money; our operating expenses are roughly $6.21 a month.

To cover the costs of keeping this absolutely free show (and other Made of Fail Productions content!), we have a few ways of donating.

First off, we are going to be holding a couple Awesome Auctions. We also have our advertising through Project Wonderful; the proceeds of which go directly to the show!

Finally, there's that faithful PayPal Donation button.

Thanks for listening, and here's to many more years of Made of Fail!

  1. Free Content does not include any psychotherapy costs incurred as a result of listening to Made of Fail. Soz.

The Aftermath and Auction:

The disc is blackened beautifully (New Orleans-style!) with a gorgeous vein of sparkly gold running down the top rim. Also, it's Final Fantasy XIII after being set on fire. The perfect gift for anyone who felt betrayed by the sheer awfulness of this game!

I will personally autograph it with whatever you want. Shipping ONLY to continental U.S.

LJ is up for more than thirty seconds?* Oh good. Because *fanfare* MADE OF FAIL IS HOLDING AUCTIONS!

Now that I have my job back, it falls to me to begin a round of auctions that will benefit you, the listener, because every penny will benefit us, the show. In that, uh, it's going to help keep us running for another year. (Yes, we know. We are still working out the kinks of the merchandise. Would you believe they want actual money from us to print them? Some people.) We need to pay for domain space, hosting, yadda yadda more computer stuff that Kevin knows more about than I do.

The good news is that this isn't an "Emily's Eyes" situation. We don't need thousands of dollars or anything. But you do love your favoritest podcast in the whole wide world, right? And you have goodness in your hearts, right?

Kevin's going to yell at me for excessive eye-fluttering, I just know it. XD

Anyway! Just wanted to give you guys a heads-up. We'll have some pretty cool** stuff up for auction over the next several weeks, one later today if LiveJournal doesn't get DDoS-ed again!

...although I could just post it to the main site, I suppose...

...yeah, wow, I don't think things through.

GO BACK TO SLEEP, DAYNA.

HEY KEVIN IS GETTING MARRIED! Feel free to congratulate him and/or express your sympathies to Trekkiegirl. <3

Made Of Fail has a family and didn't even bother getting married first, the hoor. Please check out Noel and Evie's podcast I Hate/Love Remakes, and feel free to also mosey on over to Straight Guy Reviews Of Bad Romance Novels as well as the Farscape rewatch project Deconstructing Moya.

For more on this wacky adventure called LARPing, check out its article on our dear friend Wikipedia. Also, because we're required now: "Lightning Bolt!"

Over on the D&D end of the spectrum, Dayna's group streams Wednesdays between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm Central time over at Roll Dem Bones. It's streamed by SonikGav, who you may have seen playing on occasional Sundays at LordKaT's stream.

A huge thank you to Martin from the Hoo on Who Podcast and AMV Blitz for joining us this episode! Also huge thank you to listener Rowan (rowandoll), who's on the board of the Bruised Orange Theater Company, for likewise joining us and being, as always, simply awesome. Rowan brings us the Caper Company Haunted Tours and Milwaukee's Optimist Theatre.

Rowan brings us a series of Doctor Who related clips!
  • Craig Ferguson shows us that Doctor Who exemplifies "The triumph of intellect and romance over brute force and cynicism."

  • Anyone growing up watching Doctor Who in Chicago will remember the epic Marty Robinson openings.

  • Also in Chicago is the classic incident where a man successfully took over the airwaves of major local stations. To this day, he has still not been caught.

  • Finally, by Steven Moffat himself, Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death, one of the best parodies we've ever seen. Part 1 and Part 2.

For more Doctor Who listening, check out the radio dramas at Big Finish Productions and the Doctor Who Podcast Alliance.

Two of the biggest Doctor Who conventions in the United States are the famed Chicago TARDIS and Gallifrey One out in Southern California.

Check out the trailer for the Supernatural anime!

Finally, Made of Fail would like to congratulate the Decoder Ring Theatre for their 2010 Podcast Award in Culture/Arts! You earned it, guys, and we'll be back to challenge you next year!

And finally, but no less important, if you haven't been following the story of the seven-year-old girl who was ridiculed for liking Star Wars, don't worry. We've got you covered. I had so many requests that I decided to put it all together into a full-blown guide, with pictures and sample audio.

This guide has been completed and is now available on our website. I now present to you: Made of Fail's Podcasting Guide!

From listener valkyriefire:

Okay, so besides coming across as a creepily cheerful fan upon occassion, I wanted to let you guys know I've been a crisis intervention/suicide prevention specialist for the last five years. I answer suicide and crisis hotlines, mostly on the graveyard shift, and I'm lucky that I have a kick-ass agency that attracts a lot of awesome volunteers and counseling/social work students to answer the crisis lines.

Here are a few go-to national crisis hotlines:

1-800-784-2433
1-800-273-8255
1-800-442-4673

They are answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Since they are national, they will be routed to the nearest crisis center taking calls, so it might not be in your town or state. However, it is a caring, listening ear that's readily available.

Thanks for addressing the issue of bullying and doing it well.

Donation Auction for foresthouse [Oct. 22nd, 2010|08:29 am]

alliancesjr
[Tags|, ]

As we mentioned last post, our dear friend Emily has had experimental eye surgery. It was an expensive procedure, and friends from all over have donated to help her.

Unfortunately, the payment information has changed somewhat. Instead of spreading out the costs over time, the hospital is demanding the entire cost by the end of the month.

To help Emily with this, a Donation Auction was set up. Please take a look over there and bid on any items or services that appeal to you; it's for a good cause.

That's not all!

To further help this cause, we here at Made of Fail have set up individual auctions in Emily's name.

Dayna is offering an autographed copy of Sunken Treasure, by Wil Wheaton.
Kevin has committed himself to beginning Straight Guy Reviews of Bad Romance Novels, with the first one chosen by the auction winner.

That's still not all!

Made of Fail has gotten into the action, by offering up all of the following prizes:

  • Guest-appearance on the January episode of the Made of Fail Podcast! (Website/LiveJournal/Twitter) The episode will even be about your favorite subject!

  • A huge thank you on November's episode, and I will also read aloud YOUR PERSONAL MESSAGE on the air!

Dearest listeners,

Our friend Emily is undergoing surgery this week. You may remember her from Episode Twenty-Five: Narrative Causality, as well as the North American Discworld Convention in 2009, and ask_deadpool.

If you would like to show your support, please head over to cleolinda's journal where she has donation details.

All of us at Made of Fail are thinking of you, Emily. We wish you luck.

New website! [Sep. 22nd, 2010|09:57 pm]

This has been in the works for a while, and I'm excited to finally announce that...

*drumroll*

Made of Fail has a proper and real website!

That's right. MadeOfFail.net now points to a proper website with links and bells and whistles and everything! Even ad-space by Project Wonderful!

But fear not, LiveJournal, RSS and e-mail subscribers, for your preferred source of Made of Fail will continue to update regularly. We're just mirroring to an easier-to-say (and easier-to-market) URL. In fact, using the website to subscribe to the show will continue to direct users to all three of these delivery options.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a bottle of celebratory Woodchuck to open. L'chaim!

- Kevin
